01 — The Foundation

What is EUDR?

EUDR (EU Deforestation Regulation) is a major regulatory initiative aimed at minimizing the EU's contribution to global deforestation and forest degradation.

It requires companies placing certain commodities or products on the EU market — or exporting them from the EU — to ensure they are deforestation-free, legally produced, and fully traceable to their geographic origin.

The regulation applies to key commodities associated with deforestation, including cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, rubber, and wood, as well as many products derived from them. Global PCCS partners with operators and traders to make EUDR compliance faster, cleaner and audit-ready.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the EUDR?+

The EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) is an EU law aimed at minimizing the EU's contribution to global deforestation and forest degradation. It requires companies placing certain commodities or products on the EU market — or exporting them from the EU — to ensure they are deforestation-free, legally produced and fully traceable to their geographic origin.

Which commodities are covered?+

The regulation applies to cattle, cocoa, coffee, palm oil, soy, rubber and wood, as well as many products derived from them.

When does the EUDR apply?+

Following a second postponement, the EUDR is now scheduled to apply from 30 December 2026 for large and medium operators and traders, with an extended deadline of 30 June 2027 for micro and small enterprises.

What is a Due Diligence Statement (DDS)?+

A DDS is the formal declaration submitted to demonstrate that a relevant commodity or product is deforestation-free, legally produced and traceable to its plot of origin, backed by supporting geolocation and supply chain evidence.

What counts as "traceable to origin"?+

Operators must be able to trace in-scope commodities to the specific plot(s) of land where they were produced, supported by precise geolocation coordinates and, where relevant, validated polygon maps.

Do you support suppliers as well as importers?+

Yes — we build supplier communication templates, run training/webinars on EUDR obligations and support supplier onboarding and documentation review, alongside due diligence and reporting support for importers and traders.
